Simister Cup 6th Round 

The 5th round was eventually completed after two failed previous attempts due to bad weather. Scoring was very tightly bunched, with the top 5 players on 19 points followed by 8 others on 18 points. Based on card play-off rules, the results were:- 

Winner - Alan Adams 
Runner up - Simon Barber 
3rd - Mike O'Regan 
4th - Paul Ellis 
5th - Matthew Hodgson 


 

Last Sunday was the penultimate week of the Winter League. At the start of the round, there were three teams in the running to win. All three teams went on to win their games convincingly. 

The Captain and I had a thoroughly enjoyable game with former captains John Deakin and Rob Booth. We took a 4 up lead early on in the round and managed to hold onto it until the 15th to take the match. Thanks to both of you for the game!

And then there were two….

Going into the final week there are now only two teams who can win; Team Foden/Peck/Stanyer/Lane/Fesmer and the Captain and I. We are currently one point behind the other team, unfortunately I am at my nephew's christening in Jersey so I am unable to play. Rick Ford has agreed to step in, good luck to you all!

How has the K-Vest helped Matt to cure his reverse pivot and improve his ball striking?

One of my students Matt has been working hard on his game to get ready for the start of the season. Matt has a tendency to strike the ball inconsistently due to his lower body moving incorrectly in the backswing. 

As you can see from the picture below, at the top of the swing, Matt has too much weight on his left leg. The K-Vest data showed us that his Pelvis side bend at the top of the swing was 21 degrees, over twice what we would like it to be! The problem with this position is that it makes it very difficult to move the body in the correct sequence in the downswing.

   

As you can see in the picture below, he is now keeping his hips much more stable, leading to less pelvis side bend. This has helped to improve his ball striking dramatically.
