How has Martin changed his swing?
Martin came to me suffering from inconsistency in his ball flight. He is lucky enough to hit the golf ball a long way, but tends to his pull hooks with all clubs. This is caused by a steep plane in the downswing and the club swinging out to in.
After carrying out some initial analysis with the K-Vest and Video cameras, we found the root cause of his problems was in his setup and backswing. Firstly he was setting up with his left hip too low; this then led to a similar problem in the backswing.
As you can see in the picture below, his left hip was also too low at the top of the swing (K Vest shows it was 15 degrees lower).
This swing fault is also known as a "Reverse Pivot".
As you will see in the second picture, Martin is now loading into his right leg at the top of the swing. This has allowed him to keep his hips more level (K-Vest shows the left hip was now only 13 degrees lower) which in turn allows him to move his body more efficiently in the downswing.
