Tuesday, 10 May - 9 Hole League match at Gatley
The afternoon players had the better of the weather, for the rain / hail affected competition, but it nevertheless produced some very good scores.
The winning pair was Chris Edwards and Nigel Pugh with 72 points, one more than the runners up Nigel Howells and Gordon Stewart. Third and fourth places went to Ron Ricketts / Tom Ricketts and Danny Wright / Brian Pennington who both carded 68 points.
Ladies Invitation Day
A good selection of visitors and members enjoyed a very sociable day at the 9 hole triple tester competition. On a pleasant, if cold day, the prize winning teams all scored a creditable 43 points. Visitor prize went to Jill Higgins, Wendy Higgins and Kay Atkin from Macclesfield GC. Runners up were the team from Davenport of Lynda Jones, Pam Perry and Carole Tonge.
Home team winners were Lisa Burns, with her guests form Hale, Tessa Day and Caroline Perkins, both from Hale. Runners up on a card playoff were Wendy Rule and her team - two familiar faces, Sue Watson (Vale Royal) and Jane Eastaugh (Woodside).
Nearest the pin winners were Lady Captain and Wendy Rule and the Putting Prize went to Chris Jones from Delamere, Helen Edwards' guest.
Thanks to Fizz, Pheonix cards and Buttercup for providing an opportunity for a little retail therapy and to all the ladies who provided raffle prizes and cakes. Over £200 was raised for Lady Captains Charity (boosted by the money for the twos club as no one got a two!)
Cloud 9!
Many of you won't know but I am a Leicester City fan, and before you ask, yes I supported them when they were rubbish too! I used to go to all of the home games when I was at university in Birmingham. Shortly after meeting Sarah I took her to watch Leicester get beaten by Burnley 2-0, probably one of Leicester's worst performances of the season which led to our relegation to League 1.
The next Leicester game I took her to was to watch them at Old Trafford on Sunday to hopefully watch them win the title, how things have changed! Although that didn't materialise on Sunday, it is great now to say that we are officially champions!
What Can We Learn From Leicester's Performance?
There are not many greater examples of how great preparation, hard work and attention to detail can lead to good results even if you are not the most talented. Think about how this applies to your golf game over the next few weeks. Which areas of your game are causing you to drop the most shots in a round?
What Is The Kinematic Sequence And How Can It Help Your Game?
Today I thought I would discuss the kinematic sequence. This is a measure of swing efficiency which we look at when using the K-Vest in golf lessons. Basically it compars the rotational speed of the hips, shoulders and hands throughout the golf swing. There is a very specific blueprint for efficiency that the top players use, regardless of swing style.
To demonstrate this I am going to compare two of David's graphs.
David has what could be described as quite an 'armsy' golf swing which caused him to hit a lot of heavy and thin shots as well as a lot of hooks. As you can see in the first graph below, the brown line (the hands) do not come into contact with the green line (the shoulders) at any point in the downswing. This basically means that David is casting or releasing the club early.
As you can see in the graph below, this has now changed. Using a few of the K-Vest training drills, David has been able to get his hips and shoulders moving earlier in the downswing, which has caused his hands and the club to lag behind his body leading to better ball striking and fewer hooks.
