Jubilee Mixed Open
A pleasantly sunny day greeted the members, their guests and visitors to the Club as a healthy field of 28 teams competed for the Jubilee Trophy. The first prize was won by Julie Ricketts and her guest Steve Carless (Bramhall Park) with a great score of 43 points, second place to Celia Berent and her partner John Lavin, invited by Mr Captain, with 39 points. Third place with 38 points on a card playoff was Andy Holt with Andrea Atherton (Prestbury).
The visitor prize went to Margaret and Howard Davies, from Pryor Hayes and Chester GC with 36 points, their first time to the course so well done!
Nearest the pins went to Pete Evans (Rochdale) on the 6th and Sue Lord (also Rochdale) on the 13th, with twos for Celia Berent and John Lavin, Peter Davies and Georgina Whalley and Ron Ricketts and Sue Carless.
We were delighted to welcome some long distance guests from Diss Golf Club - Barbara and Dennis, it will be great to see you next year!
Pro's Prize
This rearranged competition enjoyed fine weather and some good scoring. Tom Troup won with a tremendous score of 41 points, resulting in a handicap reduction to 9.6 and a double celebration as it was his 16th birthday. Happy Birthday and well done Tom!
Runner up was Bob Anderson (39 points) with Mike Davies (38), Dan Featherstone (38) and Logan Stanyer (37) following closely behind.
Beat the Pro
Thanks to everyone who entered the beat the pro competition on the 4th and 13th holes, it was a tricky hole to play in the wind...
Well done to Neil Mcguinness, Chris Regan, Logan Stanyer and Billy Bennet for beating me.
FootJoy Shoe Fitting Day
Thank you to everyone who attended the shoe fitting day. It was hugely interesting to see that nearly 80% of you were wearing the wrong sized shoes (including me!)
If you're not 100% sure you're wearing the right sized shoe, make sure you drop in and have a chat with a member of the team, and see if we can find you a shoe that offers you more comfort and support out on the course.

Bring on the Ryder Cup!
For scheduling reasons, the final Major of the season was on us pretty quickly at the weekend – but the 98th PGA Championship delivered a thrilling finale.
There was a danger that with events in New Jersey coming so soon after The Open at Royal Troon, the tournament wouldn’t have the same buzz, but eventual winner Jimmy Walker and defending champion Jason Day provided a dramatic ending to the Major season.
Day’s stunning approach to 18, which set up eagle put the pressure on Walker, but he held his nerve to capture his first Major title.
So, that’s that. Well, not quite, because we still have the Olympics to look forward to, and no matter what your opinion on that, it will be interesting to see how it pans out.
Then, it’s the big one! It’s less than two months to go until Team Europe takes on the US at Hazeltine National Golf Club. The Americans will have another new Major winner in their side after Walker’s recent triumph, and with Dustin Johnson claiming his first Major this year as well, things are shaping up nicely – it could well be a classic.
