Monthly Medal
After a downpour in the morning play was very close to being suspended but the rain soon stopped and it turned out to be a nice afternoon.
Congratulations to Bob Pindar and Simon Barber for winning divisions 1 and 2 of the monthly medal with nett scores of 68 and 66 respectively. Both of them have had their handicaps cut.
Mixed Spring Surprise
It was good to welcome a few new faces to the 'Mixed' fold and we all enjoyed a sunny afternoon and a lovely meal after - thank you Chris.
The team competition was hotly contested - second place going to Olwen and Mike Davies and Barbara and Graham Moss with 96 points and the winners were Brian Foden, Lisa Burns and Sue and John Kendrick with 99 points. Brian Foden sneaked the nearest the pin and Andy Holt and Celia Berent got balls for their 2's.
The surprise was that there was plenty of chocolate for both the prizes and on the table...! The draw for Barbara Ames was made with some interesting looking matches being pulled out of the hat. First round matches have to be completed by Monday, 15 May please.
How has Dave changed his swing?
Dave came for his pre-season lesson last week to fine tune his swing for his competitions this summer. After some initial observation we noticed that Dave had a tendency to leave the clubface slightly open and hit shots off to the right, he also suffered from a slightly inconsistent strike, sometimes hitting the ground before the ball. Dave's current solution to leaving the clubface open was to unhinge his wrists early in the swing (see 'before' picture), the problem with this is it heads to inconsistent striking.
As you can see in the 'after' picture, Dave is now managing to avoid the early release in the downswing which is resulting in better striking and straighter shots.
