Mike Easton takes the Captain’s Prize

After the first round of the Captain's Prize, the field was tightly bunched behind the leader, Andy Wells, who'd shot a 75-10=65 to lead by one shot from Garry Olsen on 66 and six players on 67, creating one of the most open competitions for several years.  Andy took the prize for the best score on the first day.It was Mike Easton who emerged from the pack on 67 to win the 2017 Captain's Prize with two consistently good scores of 67+66=133, from a 14 handicap.  

Many congratulations to Mike for two great rounds.

Philip Mason, who was playing head-to-head in the same group as Mike, just missed out by one shot to take second place with two rounds of 67 for 134.  As the chasing pack faded, Matt Spiller came through to take third place with 70+68=138 on countback.Ben Gaunt took the prize for the best score on the 2nd day with an 83-17=66 on countback from Jan Cichocki.

Thanks to all who took part and made it such an excellent weekend.

PING Competition and a Hole in One

The ladies played their first PING 4BBB on Tuesday as 10 teams battled the wet conditions with Lady Captain, Yvonne and Gwyn scoring a fantastic 40 points to win. The top 50 stableford scores in England go through to the Grand Final and the next best 50 scores go through to the Plate Final. Both of these will be held at Gainsborough Golf Club on 4th & 5th September, so good luck to Yvonne and Gwyn.

To make it an even more special day, Liz Gardner scored a hole-in-one on the sixth hole during the competition.

Well done Liz, who later treated all the ladies to a glass if fizz in celebration.

How has Neil changed his swing?

Neil has been working hard on his game over the past few months. Initially he was suffering from shanks and when he did strike it well, he had a tendency to slice. As you can see in the ‘before’ picture, the club was outside the line in Neil’s downswing, leading to an out-to-in swing path which was causing the aforementioned ball flight.

After carrying out a few drills, Neil is now able to bring the club more from the inside and can draw the ball. This has also added considerable distance to his shots which is taking a bit of getting used to but is a big advantage in the long term.
