Centenary Cup
This competition is now in its eighth year, and despite being open to every member, drew in a select field of merely thirty three players competing for the honour of their name on the 'Board', which was a pity as it was a closely fought match with some good scores posted. The overall Winner was Chris Edwards, with a fine score of 65 nett, second Ronnie Ricketts and third Jan Cichocki. Sadly none of the six ladies playing appeared on the winners sheet, even with the helpful extra four shots....
Maybe next year everyone? Watch out for the notices and the emails.
Betterball Stableford
A mixed day for weather saw the start delayed, but the greens drained well and the competition took place. The top three places were:
1st - Brian Pennington & David Snell - 44 points (after count back)
2nd - Pete Burns & Trevor Rathbone - 44 points
3rd - Ian Broughton & Mike Fox - 43 points
Ladies Stableford
Congratulations to Helen Williams for winning the Ladies Stableford with a score of 33 points. Wendy Rule came a close second also on 33 points.
Bell Cup
Congratulations must also go to the ladies team for winning their knockout match in the Bell Cup against Ashton on Makerfield. Due to heavy rain the match didn't finish until 22.10 on Friday night! The next round is against Aston Under Lyne at home.
Putter counterbalancing: is it for you?
The most recent trend in putter design is counterbalancing. This basically means making the grip end heavier. But what's the point of it, and could you benefit?
The putting stroke basically asks you to move a light object slowly, and there are plenty of golfers who have trouble controlling that. For these players, the stroke can feel more solid when they feel a little more weight in their hands. For example, you might find it easier to throw a golf ball into a bin 8ft away than you would a table-tennis ball.
So counterbalancing is essentially aimed at people who feel their hands can get busy during the stroke, and it's no coincidence it's come along in the wake of the anchoring ban. Many golfers report improvement with counterbalanced putters. So if you think it could work for you, sound us out; we can help with trial clubs and advice. Click here to contact us today.
