Alderley Edge Challenge Cup
The Challenge Cup is one of our oldest & grandest trophies, predating the change of name to Alderley Edge GC in 1923 by two years. This year's competition was played in reasonable weather and low winds, with just one squall to spoil the afternoon, although from the scores, it was clearly playing long after last week's rain. CSS went up to 69 for the first time for a while.
In 3rd place was Ben Gaunt, with a 67. In 2nd place on a cpo was Andy Wells with an excellent gross 73-8=65, who also received an Exceptional Scoring Reduction to bring his handicap down to 6.
The winner, with 83-18=65, was Roy Parker, playing in his first Saturday comp off white tees since converting from introductory to full membership. Congratulations to Roy, whose handicap is now down to 16.
Captain’s Prize to the Seniors
In difficult weather conditions, the Seniors played for the Captain’s Prize on Wednesday. Third after a card play off was Dave Read with 32 points. Second was Trevor Rathbone also with 32 points.
The clear winner was Alex Campbell, with a very creditable 34 points.
