Ladies Monthly Medal Final

Today saw the ladies playing in the Medal Final. In not easy conditions this was won for the first time by Celia with a net 76. Meanwhile out on the course there was much excitement when Olwen got a hole in one on the 6th. Well done Olwen and thank you for the drinks at the end of the competition.

Gent’s Monthly Medal Final

The Monthly Medal Final was played in atrocious weather conditions, standing water on the greens meant it was barely playable. It was remarkable that CSS stayed at 68.

The winner of the Subsidiary Medal held on the same day was Andy Hogg, with 82 (17) 65.

In joint 3rd place in the Medal Final were Simon Edbury and Mike Troup with nett 69s. In 2nd place was Ian Pearce on a card play-off with 88 (21) 67. The overall winner of the Monthly Medal Final was the immediate Past Captain, Pete Wood, also with 88 (21) 67.

The main talking point from the weekend’s golf was Paul Dunne’s emphatic victory at the British Masters. The Irishman produced a sensational final-round 61, including a chip-in birdie at the last, to hold off Rory McIlroy’s late charge and win his maiden European Tour title by three shots.

Across the pond, the United States were taking on the International team in the Presidents Cup – their equivalent of the Ryder Cup. The USA strolled to victory in this one but it was the Rules-related drama that caught our eye. Here’s what happened:

1. During Friday’s fourball matches, Anirban Lahiri practiced a bunker shot after conceding a hole which is against the Rules, meaning he was DQ from the next hole due to the current hole already being over
2. During Saturday’s fourball matches, Oosthuizen attempted an eagle putt with his partner already securing the birdie. His eagle putt raced by the hole so Spieth picked up his ball as it was now meaningless…while it was still moving. This is a violation of Rule 1-2, which led to the USA team losing the hole
