Congratulations to Mike Davies for winning round six of the Simister Cup with a score of 37 points. Intermediate Members Andy Snell and Adam Terefenko were second and third with 36 points each. There was a change at the top of the table this week in the Gent's Winter League - Team Elly, Ekstein, Leaver and Wastell are now one point clear at the top. The Captain and I are looking forward to playing them next week!
Next week is also the last week of my winter 9 hole stableford series. Alan Wright is currently one point ahead of Brian Boughey with several players still in the hunt for the title!
How did Steve Thomas change His swing and his Ball Flight?
One of my students, Steve Thomas has been working hard at his swing over the winter and has dramatically changed his technique and improved his ball flight.
Firstly he used to have an extremely "over the top" swing causing him to hit a big slice. We have now changed his downswing to a more on plane move which is helping him to hit a draw.
Secondly, he used to cast the club in the downswing leading to very inconsistent striking and a high ball flight. This also caused him to lack distance with all clubs. As you can see in the picture to the right, he now has a much more efficient impact position leading to great improvements in ball striking and distance.
Below is a comparison of the flightscope data before and after the changes with a 7 iron. There are vast improvements in clubhead speed, ball speed, launch angle and distance. (based on 7 iron averages before and after swing changes):
