Competition news

Captain’s Prize

A great weekend was had by all at the Captain’s Prize, 88 players played the first round with the top 40 qualifying for the second round.

Ron Ricketts came out on top in round one with a nett 64 with Bill Fisher and Ollie Lane following closely behind with nett 65’s. There were a lot of tired and hungover players taking part in the second day, Alex Pannell won the day with a nett 69. Bill Fisher won the overall Captain’s Prize with 65-72 to beat Chris Regan by a shot.

Many thanks to the Captain for organising such a great weekend!

Ladies Bridgestone Medal

Congratulations to Fiona Anderson for winning this event with a fantastic nett 65! Her handicap has now been reduced to 30.

Great golf Fiona.

9 Hole Stableford

Congratulations to Karen Pennington for winning the 9 Hole Stableford with a score of 23 points. Helen Williams came second with 21 points.

Get into Golf at Alderley Edge GC

1 Hour FREE Golf Taster is on Thursday 2nd August at 2pm

Perfect for anyone looking to try the game, this course of 5 one hourly group sessions will provide you with the basic skills and knowledge for learning golf. A highly trained and friendly PGA professional will work with you personally to teach you all you need to know.

First session – Thursday 9th August at 2pm.
£25 for 5 sessions – All equipment provided
Dress code – Casual

Junior Summer Camps at Alderley Edge GC

Join Steve (PGA Professional) for either a ½ day or full day of fun packed golf games, drills, and skills with some time on the golf course weather permitting!! The sessions run through the summer holidays on the following dates:

Friday 3rd August 9.00-12.00 & 1.00-4.00 (1/2 or full day).
Friday 10th August 9.00-12.00 (1/2 day only).
Friday 17th August 9.00-12.00 & 1.00-4.00 (1/2 day or full day).
Friday 24th August 9.00-12.00 & 1.00-4.00 (1/2 day or full day).
Friday 31st August 9.00-12.00 & 1.00-4.00 (1/2 day or full day).

1/2 day cost is £20 per child and full day is £35 per child without lunch or £40 per child if you wish your child to have lunch in the clubhouse (this consists of a sandwich, chips and ice cream).

Danger!

Are you the type of golfer who considers the danger ahead of you and plans accordingly, or do you pull a driver from the bag on every par-4 and par-5 without a blink? If you’re the latter then you need to read on.

Consider the danger
You hear pros talk a lot about the ‘smart shot’ in their post-round interviews. If you’re on the tee and there’s a bunker, ditch or other hazard around the distance that your driver or fairway wood normally flies, then make sure you change club to one that takes the trouble out of play, as displayed in this graphic. While you’ll have a slightly longer shot to the green, you’ll greatly reduce the chance of a big number.

Know your numbers
Of course, key to all of this is knowing how far each of your woods carries. If you’re looking to add more distance and control to your game, come and test the Lynx Parallax driver, Parallax fairway and Parallax hybrid. Lynx Prowler VT iron

If you’re looking to upgrade to a more workable iron as your handicap gets lower, you shouldn’t overlook the Lynx Prowler VT model, which looks like a classic blade but is hollow for plenty of forgiveness. During a fitting we can test it in multiple shafts and against other irons to see which look, feel and ball flight you prefer.

Lynx Parallax iron

If you’re seeking maximum distance with plenty of forgiveness, we think you’ll be drawn to the Lynx Parallax iron, which has a larger headshape and a powerful thin face. During testing we can look at your consistency and yardages with this and other heads and shafts to ensure you leave with a set that’s ideal for your game.
