Competition results

Ladies Bridgestone Medal

Congratulations to Celia Berent for winning the Bridgestone medal with a nett 75, Wendy Rule and Helen Williams came second and third with 76’s. A special mention goes to Jaki Pariser who came 5th in only her second 18 hole competition.

Orange Ball

Congratulations to the team of Ken Hall, Pete Wood, David Slater and Keith Cooney for winning the Orange Ball Stableford with a score of 156 points

Thursday Stableford

Congratulations to Aled Jones for winning the 9 hole stableford with a score of 21 points – despite having a blob on the 6th! Simon Allen and Dave Snell both scored 18 points. Aled’s handicap has now been reduced to 16.

Pro's news

Pro’s Christmas Draw

This year the Pro’s Draw will be on the same night as the Gent’s AGM on Friday 7th December. This leaves me less time to sell tickets so the draw sheet is now up and running in the shop.

Tickets cost £2 each.

Fitting news

A Busy Week of Club Fitting!

I have had a busy week of club fitting here with a lot of people coming in to see if we can improve their game by getting clubs correctly fitted.

Andy decided to go with PING G400 irons 5-PW and the Cleveland CBX wedges in 48, 52 and 56 degrees. All half an inch shorter than standard and one degree upright. Irons fitted with the AWT 2.0 shaft and wedges with the heavier S400 shaft to help keep the ball flight down.

Jerry came in wanting a lower ball flight and some help to prevent the ball from going right. We fitted him with clubs that were 3 degrees upright to help take out of play the right side of the course. To help him lower the ball flight we tried a variety of different shafts. The Project X LZ helped him to produce the lowest flight most consistently in the irons and we have fitted his PING G400 hybrids and fairways with the heavier tour shaft for the same reason.

Accuracy over distance

If you watched the Ryder Cup last month then one thing should have become clear to you: finding the fairway off the tee is a must. Whilst distance does help, there's no point thrashing a drive as far as you can if you don't hit the fairway, finding yourself cutting down trees as a result - as depicted in the illustration below.

Shake off a shower
