Captain’s Prize
On a day of exceptional sport and beautiful weather, Alderley Edge’s Captain’s Prize also saw some exceptional scoring.
The President, Paul Penney, introduced the Captain, Peter Wood at Presentation on the Sunday and thanked him for stepping in at short notice to take on the role for a second time. In the long history of the Club, Pete is the first one to host a second Captain’s Weekend. Saturday night was a great occasion with the popular Rumble Fat Band also performing for the second time.
The clear overall winner of the Captain’s Prize was Andy Holt with a nett 64 on the Saturday and a nett 67 on the Sunday for a 131 total. In his acceptance speech, Andy thanked his playing partners, the clubhouse staff and greens staff, Max the Club Manager and particularly the Captain for an excellent weekend. Duncan MacPherson took 2nd place with a 70+65=135 total, and Tom Ricketts came in 3rd place with a 71+76=136 total.
Andrew Marshall was the early leader with a nett 63 on the Saturday, which triggered an Exceptional Handicap Adjustment for several low scores in recent weeks, bringing his handicap down to single figures at 8.9.
A big thank you also to Simon & Andy plus all the other kind donations which totalled over £400 for the MS Charity, which is the Captain and Lady Captains’ Charity for 2019.
