Competition results

Simister Cup Round 3

Congratulations to Jan Cichocki for winning the third round of the Simister Cup with a score of 19 points. Gary Buxton and Paul Grundy both scored 18 points.

Winter League

Sunday morning was cold and very windy which made conditions very tricky! The Captain and I were taking on Rick Marshall and Brian Pennington. We knew it was going to be a difficult day when Rick knocked it on the first green in two with a shot! We managed to get to the turn all square before Rick birdied the 10th for them to go one up. He then did the same on the 12th to keep them ahead and they stayed one up with two to play.

The Captain then used his shot well on the 17th for a 3 nett 2 to win the hole and up the last we went. Brian managed to make his 5 nett 4 to leave Bob with a putt for the match which narrowly missed meaning the match was halved.

Considering we were behind for most of the back nine it was nice to keep our unbeaten run going meaning we are now two points clear at the top of the table. Next week we are playing team Aston/Edbury/Lee and Hills, the defending Champions.

Junior group lessons are back!

Firstly, thank you for your patience regarding our winter term group lessons. Following Steve’s departure in July, we are now back up and running! Dan Featherstone has now turned professional and we will each be running two group sessions per week.

The main focus of this term’s lessons will be improving technical skills in the golf studio in the following areas; full swing, chipping, pitching and putting. Where suitable, we will use the golf simulator to help with understanding of course management and club selection.

Dan’s Lessons

Every Friday (4pm) and Sunday (3pm) starting on Friday, 8 November.

Charles’ Lessons

Every Tuesday and Thursday at 5pm starting Tuesday, 5 November.

Sometimes, the difference between a scratch golfer and a 9-handicapper can be quite small, such as how far they each hit the ball. However, there is certainly one part of the game that can be hugely different and it’s the area where your score is either made or lost.

Why the gap?

It's brilliant to see more club golfers getting fitted for new clubs now than ever before, and long may that continue!

But why would you not get fitted for your wedges?

With modern lofts on irons being stronger than ever (one of the reasons today's irons go further than a decade ago), golfers are often left with huge gaps between clubs at the bottom of their bag.

With lofts available from 46 (PW) to 64 (LW) degrees, we'd highly recommend getting fitted for Cleveland’s RTX 4 wedges as not only will they provide you with great performance around the green, but the correct set-up will easily fill any gaps you might have.
