5 Club Stableford 

The annual 5 club stableford competition took place on Saturday in perfect autumn weather. Leaving 9 clubs in the locker room/garage did not seem to make a big difference to the scoring as we saw 22 Two's on the day, the highlight being a two from Tim Hoare on the 10th! 

Four players achieved 2 Two's those being Nick Johnson, Simon Barber, Andy Wells and Jerry Dixon. Congratulations to them. 

Four players broke nett par with Mike Davies and Steve Bennett on 37 points, Matthew Robinson on 38 points, but the winner, playing off 5, was Mike Troup on 39 points.

An excellent day enjoyed by most players and no surprise that Mike won though, given his ability to manufacture great shots with four clubs and a putter to choose from!


Other Results 

A special mention goes to one of my students, Mandy Hill who has won her last two competitions at Abersoch G.C. and had a hole in one! In the space of 12 months she has managed to drop her handicap from 36 to 24, a great achievement! 


How has Mandy changed her swing? 

Mandy had a tendency to slice the ball leading to a loss of distance and inconsistent striking. Over the past year we have altered her grip slightly, to make it stronger and allow her to close the club face more often. 

Following on from that we have worked on flattening out her swing plane to help her swing the club towards the target rather than 'over the top' as you can see in the picture below.

British Masters 

It was great to see Englishman Matt Fitzpatrick win the event, Assistant Pro Martin went down to watch and said the standard of golf was fantastic. One observation he made was the number of players who were using the new TaylorMade M1 driver, not only players who were sponsored by TM but also a number of others.
