The April Monthly Medal took place on Saturday 5th April 2014 in decent weather conditions. The standard scratch was 70 on the day from 73 entries.
The out and out winner from Division 1 was Gavin Elly with an excellent net 66 (gross 80), followed by Craig Aston with a net 68 (gross 77). Both players saw a reduction in their handicaps to 13 and 8 respectively.
The winner of Division 2 was Simon Barber with a net 70 (gross 87) on countback, followed by Drew Sutton, also with a net 70 (gross 88).
All 4 players qualify for the Monthly Medal Final and the winners, Gavin and Simon, are pictured with The Captain receiving their prizes.
Have you had your putter custom fitted?
Gavin has recently benefited from getting his new Rife putter custom fitted. The putter is often the club that people forget about when it comes to custom fitting, but why should you alter your putting stroke to suit a certain putter?! It has been a busy week in the shop this week with lots of new arrivals:
Cleveland Fitting Cart
The Cleveland fitting cart has finally arrived! I know there are a number of you who have been waiting for this to arrive in order to get some new irons fitted, so please contact me here or pop in store to speak to either Paul or myself to get a fitting booked in. They are currently offering a £100 trade in value against your old set of irons!
FootJoy Clothing
This very fashionable range of men's clothing was very popular last year, and I am sure it will be the same this year! We have a larger selection of shirts for you to come in and try.
The next time you miss a makeable putt, give yourself a break. Boffins tell us that on an 8ft putt, your blade has only to be one degree open or shut at impact for the ball to miss the hole.
Putter makers realise this, of course, and our shop selection employs the latest aim-enhancing designs and cosmetics. Some like to see down-the-line assistance; others find squaring-up markings more useful. Today's ranges cater for both. If you've never considered which suits your eye, we'd urge you to. Better still, come and talk to us about it. It could save you a lot of lip-out pain.
Also, consider how well you strike the putt. A heel strike closes the blade; a toe strike opens it. The putter's length plays a role here. A good length allows a set-up that promotes a solid, centred strike. The best way to ensure you get this right is to pay us a visit. We'll be delighted to help.
