Byeong Hun An defeated his compatriot Tom Kim at the Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea to become a two-time DP World Tour champion.

The pair began the final round as joint leaders and continued to threaten each other’s game over the course of the Sunday. Kim’s back 9 consisted of two birdies and 7 pars to keep him on 5-under-par for the day. His excellent putting combined with the praise coming from his home fans was reminiscent of his efforts at the Presidents Cup a few weeks ago.

An was similarly locked-in to his game. Despite dropping a shot on the 5th, the 33-year-old made 6 birdies to take him to 17-under-par. A bogey on the 17th hole put him a stroke behind Kim, meaning he would have lost the tournament were it not for making a birdie on the final hole.

The highlight of his round was hitting a driver 290 yards off the deck when he was midway down the par-5 15th hole for his ball to roll within 6 feet of the hole for a two-putt birdie. With both players seemingly on top of their game, a playoff commenced with the pair replaying the 18th hole.

Both players made risky approach shots when firing into the 18th green which left Kim in a difficult situation that included him shooting into the main stand with his third shot and subsequently carding a bogey. Having made it onto the green in 3, An then had two putts for the title, but he only needed one.

There was a huge roar from the crowds when Byeong Hun An’s winning putt made its way to the hole. His last win had been a fair few years ago at the 2015 BMW PGA Championship. He praised his playoff partner’s tenacity and exclaimed he was ecstatic to have won in his post-tournament interview.

“There has been a lot of fans out there supporting me and Tom and I feel like we had a great battle today. I just got a little lucky to be a winner out there today I think.”
