The PGA Tour took to Ontario, Canada over the weekend for the annual RBC Canadian Open. The only tour event on this year’s calendar to be held in Canada, the tournament took place at the revered TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley.
New Zealand’s Ryan Fox emerged victorious following a four-hole playoff with Sam Burns on Sunday, earning him his second PGA Tour title just weeks after winning the Myrtle Beach Classic.
Fox posted consistent initial rounds of 64 before an excellent 6-under feat on the Saturday saw him head into the final round tied for the lead with Matteo Manassero on 14-under-par.
The Sunday was packed with action as Sam Burns stormed the leaderboard through carding an 8-under day of 62, becoming the outright leader. Burns seemed destined for the win until Fox heroically sunk a 16-foot putt for birdie on the 18th green to tie with Burns and force a playoff.
Taking to the 18th tee again, both players made par on the 576-yard par-5, and they did so for another two attempts. On the fourth playoff hole, Fox landed a brilliant second shot near the hole to putt in for a birdie while Burns lagged behind with another par.
It was Fox’s second victory within four starts and reflecting upon his performance over the weekend we was ecstatic with how his putter had behaved all tournament long:
“It was very hard-fought; I was pretty lucky to make that putt in regulation at the 18th. It just snuck in. I didn’t hit a couple of great shots in play-off and Sam let me off there the first time around. Nice to hit a good one that fourth time, that’s probably the best shot I’ve ever hit in my life. Nice to do it in these circumstances.”
We love seeing such world-class golf being played, and can’t wait to see even more at the U.S. Open this weekend. Who do you think will be taking home the trophy?
